I purchased a thinkpad x60 off of ebay. I tried to flash a modded bios to it due to the wlan whitelisting, and it did not go so well. After digging through the harddrive to get some stuff off it looks as though there was a windows 7 loader on it.
Anyways, the winflash locked up and after an hour of windows messages about the program not responding I let windows close it. After it got shutdown it has never booted since. When you press the power button, it turns the fan on for about 10 secs or so, then that shuts off, the display never comes on and the power, battery light come on and the circle with the z in it. thats it.

I recently managed to run recuva on this harddrive and dig out a bios back up of when i originally updated bios with disk image from lenovo site, not sure if it is complete, damaged or what. shows the right file size, but originally recuva said unrecoverable but yet it recovered something.

I replaced the original mb already, but woould like to try my hand at reviving the old one, especially now there is no pressure the wife has her lappy back.

I have a programmer coming that i ordered off of ebay (before i found this site).
I also was looking at the diagrams for the simple programmers and was wondering do they work for reflashing bios back to chip or just reading?

I have the original bios.bak from first update if anyone can verify it would work. if there is any other info needed let me know.

Thinkpad x60 1707-c9u
bios 7buj28uc

thanks

Hi,

The simple programmer is not working. The BIOS is a different kind of eeprom and requires the SPEG flash programmer.

No problemos. Send the dump to support-at-allservice.ro

Just for the records: If the BIOS dump is not good, we can recover and repair the original BIOS with extracting TCPA sig and all (Thinkpad's don't work with BIOS copied from another machines, it is paired with TCPA chip)

The BIOS repair service is $25 for our SPEG flash programmer's licensed users, or $35 otherwise.

Here is the programmer I ordered
[Removed. Do not post links to ebay.com here!]

I ordered that before I found this site.
The bios backup I have is from the Board I am trying to revive so that shouldnt be a problem I am just not sure if it was recovered intact or not as I had to use a "undelete" program to recover it from a formatted and reloaded hardrive. Any who I will send it later today as the file is on a computer not here right now. Thank you I appreciate your help.

Bad news! That thing is not a programmer for serial flashes.

X60 BIOS is stored into a 2MB serial flash.

Ok, I have been searching this mb for a while looking for this bios. Is it the sst25fv016?
If so, which software do I need to dump it with to send to you?

I got my hands on some willems pcb6.0 deep blue but it comes with pretty much no documentation. Ive been trying to just order your speg but right now have to wait again due to someone not ponying up for repairing their acer.

Thanks

If the bios is unrecoverable from the chip are you still able to repair it? Like if I had to buy a blank chip?

No, since there's nothing material to fix. But we can build another one, based on your laptop spec and neuter or sign the TCPA block inside it.
