|
|
Hi guys,
need some help with my marriage...
I have serviced the wife's x61 a few days ago - cleaned the fan, doubled the memory and reinstalled Win7 on an OCZ SSD.
Up until now she had a PowerOn BIOS password on the X61 but now I thought it would be better to have a HHD password. I wish I hadn't!
I set up the pw she used before (I swear) but after a couple days when she shut it down could not start it as it was asking for the password and there was a mismatch.
Having removed the HDD the x61 is fully functional, no pw is set. Problem is I have transferred all her personal and work data to the new HDD (pictures, letters, forms, invoices).
The password is 4 letters followed by 4 numbers. I believe if I made a mistake it was the four letters the numbers are surely OK.
So can use Victor's EraseON/KeyON?
Will the data be preserved on the HDD?
Thanks |

The data will be erased, but if you're near the HDD when that happens, you will be able to unplug it when you hear the beep and save the drive's data.
You have to create a dictionary with ****YYYY, where YYYY is your known number and the wildcards are letters. Four characters combinations will be scanned in no time.
The problem is with the password passphrase settings in BIOS, this must have been disabled at the moment pass was recorded. Better check that out cause EraseON only supports standard Phoenix encoding. _________________ Victor Voinea

As far as I can remember it was disabled but it was NOT when I checked this morning after removing the SSD.
So probably it wasn't disabled after all, what do you think? |

I have successfully recovered the data from the previous HDD (as I had already deleted the partitions when moved all data to SSD a couple days ago)
Any chance to have a go with a trial version and buy a licence if it says it's unlockable? Although not many good thing I have heard about the OCZ SSDs so I'm not sure if it's worth the effort... |

There's no "trial" version simply because it has no sense.
Being a cracking software, is a trial software by definition. _________________ Victor Voinea

What I meant by 'trial' is that it would run and determinate if the password is crackable (ie passphrase wasn't activated) and let you buy the licence to actually unlock it.
Never mind, thanks for your help Victor |

I have a better idea, why don't you send that drive here. I will do a scan against the password. No charge, at all
You're located in Europe, as I remember? _________________ Victor Voinea

Will ask the wife about the data she has on it - as some of them business related. |
