Dear Victor,
finally I could construct the SIPROG (thank you!).
My last doubt before buying the eeprom writer is: Where can I download the .bin files for each Thinkpad model that I need to use with your software.
Thank you for your help and patience. |

Hello Victor,
Thank you for your thinkpad SVP retrieval method. I was able to get my thinkpad T40p working after a long time. I successfully retrieved the password using 3(a) method(SIPROG).
Thank you once again.

Hello,
and many Thanks tutorial,
I tried si-prog with my IBM TP R51 and it worked,
no I got mytp.bin
I run it with IBMPASS:
ibmpass mytp.bin
it shows found eeprom type : 24rf08
the password is:0X97Y12
I disconnect the wires gnd at last turn my TP off and turn it on
it shows The IBM Logo
and
To interrup the normal startup push the blue IBM acces button
after 20 sec. it shows a ONE Zylinder and a lock
I use the Password but it dont work
I try the same with alternate scancode but it would work too,
please can you help me ?
when I bought the TP The BIOs Batt was down and I replace it
best regards

well I have an IBM Thinkpad 770Z with a 24C01A chip
I was hoping it would work with your software.. and it doesnt.. is there any older versions of your software that will work on the 24C01A chip.. I have looked at the other softwares for that kind of chip.. but the Serial device isnt compatable with any of them that I have found..
so thats my hope to not have to build a different device to get the chip dump.. |

Hmm, 770Z has 24RF08 anytime.
Anyway, 24c01 is the most classic I2C eeprom and can be read with the same interfaces and PonyProg, I already wrote some articles here on this subject, search the forum for '24c01' |

Yes I saw that post.. but it cost money.. so I didnt go that way.. Im a little financially strapped at the moment.. and the 770Z 366Mhz uses the older chip.. I read the numbers right off the chip.. |

I just tried it again.. no go.. my last post was in error, what it was.. I have been trying everything..
I have a copy of ponyProg and it cant communicate with the chip either..
is the pinout for the 24C01A different? bottom left #4ground.. bottom right #5 SDA and #6 SCL right above SDA??
I have checked and rechecked my connections maybe 50 times..
no errors on the soldering..
the DOT pin one is on the top left..
if the pin out is different.. that would do it.. |

I don't know what you saw, but there's no cost, nothing, nada!..?
770Z has 24RF08, are you sure you don't have the chip as in the picture below?
770Z eeprom
Now, about 24C01. It works with SIPROG but usually you have to unsolder it. It has the same pin layout as 24RF08 (8 pin).

I had thought people were saying that the chip was under the memory cover on the 770z 366 MHZ I havnt pulled off the cover to look for where your picture shows....
the chip number I got off the 8 pin chip.. next to the memory slots.. near the pins for removing the powerup password in the bios.. but too bad the pins dont zero out the main password too..
I will dismantle the laptop.. and look for where your pic shows.. you dont happen to have a pic showing better location for the 770z do you?? |

|

first I would like to thank you guys a lot!!! Vicotor for this great tutorial and the others for the pictures! It gives me some hope...
one question:
When I bought the components today, I was asked about how many Watt the Zener and the resistances should have and because I really have no clue I just took a guess together with the guy selling the stuff.
I got:
1,3 Watt for the Zener
and 5 Watt for the resistances
is that important and did i do the right thing??? don't wanna mess anything up...
Thx, Ernst |

Hi,
5 Watt!!? No, just take 0.15-0.25 Watt and should be just fine.
The zeners type are BZX79-C5V1, PL5V1 or else, 1.3W is enough |

hi all,
i'm anticipating a new ebay purchase which i'll receive tomorrow (thinkpad 770e) to probably have a supervisor password and no cmos battery. i guess i should have looked further into the situation before bidding. but anyway, now that i've stumbled onto this site i have a quick question. it seems as if most people are constructing the driven interface to extract eeprom data. can i get away with just using the simple interface instead? it looks much simpler to construct and wouldn't need a separate power source. thanks all! |

770e has 24c01 not 24RF08.
Apparently the SMbus impedance in 770e is lower than SIPROG's and the best is to build the driven programmer. |

i just got my password (thinkpad t40) with the simple device and the IBMpass1.exe!!! The soldering on the EEPROM was hard work for me and the hole procedure from opening the laptop to starting it again and trying the SVP took me about 2 hours.
I can't beleave it... THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH Victor and all the others!
ps.: I went to the electronic shop aggain and the smallest 2k2 Ohm resistances i could get (and used) was 0.6 Watts but they worked fine... |
