Hello, My name is Shane, and I have a locked G40. I have been relentlessly reading over your forum here for about 2 and half weeks now, and I feel that I am comfortable enough to attempt this. So, I have all the parts needed for the simple circuit, and almost everything for the driven, so for now I will be trying to build the simple circuit. I hope to document my experience here to possibly help others who are in the same situation I am. So, first I wanted to present to you some pics of my circuit parts to make sure I have the right ones. I am no expert at this, and extreemly appriciate any help you can offer. Thank you!

heres the resistors i bought. are they the right ones for siprog?

heres the zenars i bought. will they work?

also, are there any other atmel chips on the motherboard, or is there just one atmel chip? Im pretty sure ive found it by a really big intel chip close to where the battery fits.

Good morning,

Your circuit is totaly wrong. The SCL part is OK but the SDA part is so strangely designed! Do not try anything more until you are sure you made it right. Use the itester to test it.

[Edit]
Oh, now I see. You tried to copy the design from this thread:
http://www.allservice.ro/forum/viewtopic.php?t=321&highlight=siprog

Well, look agian at the differences. Seems like the SDA diode is reversed.

thank you so much for your help.

i just tried the itester and when i click connect the 2 zeros change to 2 ones. does that mean that it recognized my circuit? im sorry for being such a noob.

Very Happy Looks ok now, compare with the picture from my earlier post.

The itester results seems to be correct as well, give it a try.

ok, after a long night of no luck last night, i am ready to tackle this project again. i got up this morning double checked my circuit and tried once more. r24rf08 is telling me: eeprom not availiable! when used with itester, i am presented with 2 values that change from 0 to 1 every 5 secs or so. from what i can tell, this means that the com1 port acknowledges that something is plugged into it. so i dismantled the tp and checked my soldering job on the eeprom, everything looks to be ok, the wires arent touching anything else or anything. i tried once again and still get the same message: eeprom not availiable. any ideas?

I could give you a lot of ideas:

1. wrong eeprom connections. I know you double checked but could you post a picture here?

2. port issue. Must be a native COM based on UART controller, not USB2COM or else. Besides, SIPROG is not perfect when it comes to do in system programming, because it depends on the port current/bus impedance. What is bus impedance? The SMbus (in laptop) has pull-up resistors that could have a lower value than usual. This could make SIPROG to not respond quite well if the serial port is weak.
A test with another PC would be a good idea.

3. ...and more...
