when i found this i was surprised, i don't know if anyone knows this but you can order samples from almost every chip made by MAXIM just go to here https://shop.maxim-ic.com/storefront/searchsample.do?menuitem=Sample&event=SampleSearchLoad
search for the product you want this case Max232A and select sample then go to the "sample cart" on top of the page and folow the rest of the instructions easy and they come in packs of 2
the only thing i don't know is the time it gets when mine arrive i wil say something here

Only that this field "Requested Shipment Date" is set to ASAP in the Sample cart  |

yes, but when you complete de request the mail they sent to you says "Your Shipping Method is : USPS - Local Post"
so theres nothing to worry about  it's all free including shiping

| Let us know if Maxim/Dallas does send you any free samples. Those samples are generally reserved for companies that forsee a large demand for parts and not something that they will hand out to private individuals. If you work for an electronics company, it would certainly help if you provide your work address in the sample request. |

| just want to say that the chips arrived today directly in my mail box and they are for free so if any one finds hard to find the chips or just want to save some money just order samples from maxim dallas site. |

Sampling is good but maybe you could just buy from MAXIM, because 5 bucks is not such a saving. But good to see that "Maxim Integrated Products" is a serious company and they have such nice marketing policies.
Nevertheless other companies use to give samples too, but you have to wait longer to get them, and as Ray pointed, usually you have to work in a company that can buy big.. |

I've gone through the maxim-ic.com web site and did not see any minimum order requirement so it may be possible to order a single device. I'm planning to buy a couple of their laptop power controller chips to troubleshoot a system that is having power up issues. |

hello there, i ask for 3 samples the 232ACPE, 232ACPE+ and the 232ACSE
and they send me 2 of each in some nifty boxes , you don't have to be a company and you don't have to make promisse on making a minimum order in order to recive the samples, just ask them, and they will send them, this ones toke around 1 week to get here, i ordered there simply because it's very hard to find any chip of these kind in my country very very hard, and as i see in the forum there are oders as well, so i ope this can help in any way thanks to every one here for the great forum. especialy Victor and rkawakami for the great "how-to" |
