While trying to follow the instructions that I found in this forum on recovering the supervisor password for my Thinkpad 240, I found out that my thinkpad doesn´t have the mentioned 24RF08 chip on the mainboard. What I found was a chip with numbering 28SF040 which can be easily pulled out from its socket.

When I reviewed the instructions to read the contents from the EEPROM 24RF08, there's a diagram telling the distribution of the pins on the 24RF08, but mine (28SF040) is different, it´s a squared chip with pins on each side. Please if you people have any idea on how to read the password from this chip and decode it. When I turn on the thinkPad, a password is requested and the same thing happens when I press F1 to go into the setup utility. As you can see, I can do nothing with this Thinkpad. I'd appreciate it if you could give me a hand with this issue.

The SST chip is containing the BIOS code not the password.
240 and 240X do have 24RF08, is on the back of the board.

does anyone have any instructions on getting to the motherboard

I just tried and i could get all the screws but it seemed like i needed to take the lcd off to do this ( i can do this but i would rather not)
