Hi there!
I´ve got a Thinkpad X21 at Ebay but noone knows the supervisor password. I spent some hours reading your tutorials. Now, there are some questions left:
1. Can I use the simple interface?
2. Where can I find the atmel eeprom at the X21?
3. Where to connect GND of the interface (Pin5)? (Also ground from the X21 as for GND of the eeprom?)
4. Are there any facts with the X21 which make the procedure more difficult?
Thank you for helping! Best regards!
Kermit

SIPROG works for X21 and you are lucky, because you won't be forced to dismantle the laptop.

Hi!
I was very lucky to hear that it is not necessary to dismantle the x21, because I printed out the complete HMM from IBM and got mad that I have to do so much to come near to the eeprom. Now, let me recapitulate if I have understood everything:
1. sold 2 resistors (2k2) and 5.1V-zener diodes together and combine them to the right ports of a female connector as it is shown in simpleprog
2. connect pin5 of the female to ground? (which ground?)
3. connect the female to the PC.
4. turn pc on an run a batch program "ping -n 20 127.0.0.1
r24rf08 x21.bin"
5. turn on power of x21 (is it necessary to wait until hard disk stops?)
6. connect the 2 cables coming from the interface to sda and scl to the pins of the docking connector (inbetween the 20 seconds)
7. get the code and decode it with IBMpass (lite)

Wow, this seems easy for experts like you. There are some questions left:
1. How to connect ground to eeprom?
2. How to run a batch programm like this above?
3. How to connect 2 wires to this very small contacts of the docking connector while pressing the both covers of the docking connector apart?
(Is there a adapter which I can buy for this very very small contacts?)
I think it is better so stop here, otherwise more questions comes up.
Greetings to all over the world!
Kermit

Forget the batch part, that is story of a user around here who needed a method to delay the software execution.

1. The docking connector ground is common with the eeprom ground.
2. Forget the batch "program", no need to complicate the things more. This tip is only for smart guys.
3. Insert 2 wires in the SDA and SCL holes and leave it that way. At the right moment, connect the wires to the interface.

Ok, this means I have to connect a wire from pin 5 of the female connector to the anodes of the zener diodes and this to the ground of the docking connector. Are you sure, that it is possible to insert 2 wires the holes. It seems that the connection is at the side of the row. If the little holes have contact, it must be easier.

Yeah, its is unbelievable. I got the password using your simple prog schematic and the software r24rf08 and ibmpass1.0. Even the pins on the docking connector were right. I am so happy now.
Very Happy
Thanks a lot to everyone who helped me, especially to victor and his team!
There was an error while installing IBMpass2.0lite, but version 1.0 works fine.
I was a little bit surprised that the BIOS of my X21 doesn´t show the name and the capacity of the hard disc drive, but maybe that is normal. I will try to change the drive at home.
If someone want I can send a picture of my interface and the copies of the comand lines.
Greeting!
Kermit
