I have a machine with amotherboard where someone tried to remove the security chip to get around password and made a mess. If I replace the chip with one from another non-working board (problem not related to security) will it work? I assume that the HD from the machine with the wrecked security chip is a throw-away. Is that true?

Thanks

Hi,

The chip will work physically, but logically..I don't know. The two laptops are the same model?

Most of the time, replacing 24rf08 password chip with a non-password works. However, it's very risky because if passphrase is on, then you WON'T be able to get the motherboard work.

Model is T30. It isn't risky because I am removing chip from a machine with a burned out power circuit and moving it to a machine with a bad security chip. It is something to do before throwing both away.

Just a moment, this is not the security chip, is just an eeprom. I have never seen a fried eeprom til now, believe me, those tiny chips are very strong.

So, you want to remove the 24RF08 from the damaged board and move it to this board with a "bad security chip". What do you mean by that? What errors are you getting?
