|
|
Hi everyone,
I've read a lot in this forum but still I am not quite sure what exactly the problem with my T42p is. Therefore, I decided to post it as a topic.
Here it is the situation:
When I try to access "Access IBM" (by pressing either the blue button or F11) during booting the machine, "IBM, Verify Password" dialog appears.
I have not set any passwords (except windows account passwords). After entering the current password I use, I get the following
"Password Error" message:
"The password you entered does not match your current password. Ensure you are using upper and lower case letters, when appropriate. If you have forgotten your password, contact your Administrator."
The icon of the message is a white cross on a red circle.
From what I read in the forum, I understood that the passwords are NOT case sensitive. However, the message above says that the password is case sensitive.
Additional information:
I can access the BIOS (by pressing F1). I checked in the BIOS - the three passwords (SVP, HDD, POP) are disabled, the passphrase as well.
I can log to windows and to use the laptop. Often, after logging, "Set IBM Rescue and Recovery Password" appears. I do not know why. Anyway, I can not do anything except to choose "I'll set the password later" or just "Cancel".
Also, since recently, after logging to windows, the screen brightness is automatically set to MAX. Very annoying thing. I wonder if there is a relation between this behavior and the prompt for Access IBM password.
Is it possible to have wrong CMOS content?
How can I set the default value of the screen brightness? Or, why the
screen brightness when I log on is not the same as it was when I last log off?
All the best,
Hristo |

Hi,
That is not a SVP nor HDP issue. Access IBM button is just booting the hidden service partition. Your laptop is obviuosly not locked, only that the Rescue&Recovery access is limited because of a password maybe.
Screen brightness can be adjusted by using IBM power manager with a proper power schema, I don't see this as a security related problem. _________________ Victor Voinea

Thanks for the quick reply, Victor!
Can someone give me an advice how to overcome this limited Rescue&Recovery access. I want to re-install windows using Rescue&Recovery. I tried all the passwords I have used in my life without any success. The funny thing is that I do not remember to have set Rescue&Recovery password and no one else could have set any.
Do you think that I would get rid of the Rescue&Recovery password if I clear the CMOS memory (by removing the back-up battery)?
I asked about the screen brightness, because in the beginning, when I log on the brithness was the same as it was when I last log off. I asked a friend of mine (owner of T43p) and he told me that after an IBM update now he experience the same behavior (brightness set to MAX).
Appreciate your opinions and advices,
Hristo _________________ Ico |
