Rolling Eyes

Hi there,

I have a faulty A31p (2653-xxx) machine with me now. This machine cannot boot up & no display. The standard beep sound appear when power on it w/o memory installed.
I suspect that could be due to corrupted BIOS. Any better idea?
I need a copy of this A31p BIOS binary file so I can pass to a local technician who can help to refresh the BIOS for me. Can some one help me on this, please?
My email address is boct.my(AT)gmail.com.

Thank you in advance for your help or suggestions.

BOCT,
A31P dump sent to your email, but be carefull, I would first try everything else I could before I used the dump. Are you getting a beep only if you remove the memory ?
Cheers
Steve.

If the laptop beeps then the BIOS code is good, in most of the cases.

BTW Steve, did you sent him a dump taken from the BIOS chip (1MB) not the one from Lenovo website, I suppose..

Hi Steve & Victor,

Thanks so much for your advice on this and the BIOS dump file.
Yes, the beeps only occur when removed the memory from the laptop.
You might be right that the BIOS is OK but I have sent this laptop for repair twice and was advised that it cannot be fixed. This probably is due to the technician's capability.
Do you have any good advice where I can find useful info on how to determine what's the real problem on this laptop?

I will ask the guy who help me to refresh BIOS to do a backup before proceeding to refresh it using the dump file you sent to me. Thanks again! Smile

Might sound stupid but double check you have the right memory installed A31P is very particular that its the right one.... eg A30 memory doesnt work if I remember correctly.
Cheers
Steve.

Thanks for pointing out this. I will ask the the technician to double check using another compatible memory module.
The current memory module was working fine until the problem occurred.
Anyway, it's worth to give it a try. Thanks again for your advice. Smile
