It turns out that the G40 eeprom is on the underside of the motherboard in the right front corner. I was able to take out enough mounting screws to pry the motherboard up from the case in that corner to attach tiny clips to the eeprom, from the underside. I turned on the G40 and got my password screen. I read the chip from my other PC and got the reading eeprom message and the saving 1024 bytes message, but the dump has all binary zeros. I would have expected that if it were hooked up wrong, I would have gotten some sort of error. I could believe that my clips were on the wrong pins or something like that, but I would expect something like eeprom not available. I deleted the bin file and ran again with the same result. I think it is connected right, because when I forgot to turn on my powered circuit, I got the expected error.
Sorry about that. I was confused, but about the wrong thing. I was having a problem working upside down and hooked to pins 3 and 4 instead of 5 and 6. It looks like there is no way to get to pins 5 and 6 without removing the motherboard from the case |
