I am looking for its location too, I've been searching each chip on mainboard surface without result. Would it be located at the back side? I was unable to take the whole mainboard out from the case to search on its back side.
Could anybody help?

hi,

try to look around chipset, it can be close..
and take care, eep no more in smd package in new models, now uses microsmd (its smaller package, still 8 legs) can be marked as w402, 402, or just 02,
you can chcek if gnd is on pin 4 (sometimes can be shorted 1+2+3+4), vcc pin 8.

That's the one, at the bottom. Anyway, no matter, they are on the same SMbus.

I made a 24C02 reader for in-system eeproms for Vaios, you may get it from here.

Unrar it and see the driven programmer's schematic diagram, that I strongly suggest you to use.

To read the eeprom, power on the laptop board, connect the GND, SDA and SCL (pick one eeprom, no matter what is it, they are sharing the SDA and SCL) and launch the program in console:
Code:
r24c02 file.bin /x /d /i

Then open the dump in IBMpass 2.1, click A-A button and press Shift-F3 to view the content in SHR1 code. The password is at 0x00 (System password) or 0x08 (User passswords)

Tip: you may use 2 needles for SDA and SCL wires, just pinch the eeprom legs with those to make a good contact, then run the reader.

Hi This is Max. I just want to know if your were successfull in recovering the password in your z1 motherboard?. I built the eeprom reader as recommended by Victor using max232 chip I tried using the chips 2402w that victor pointed out and followed his step to create a file.bin, but with no success. can you share your experience if you were successfull. thanks quote="Slevin"]ALL RESET= only reset PC ....... first pic is here [/quote]
