I have observed that we have a lot of experts here regarding laptops.
I would just like to ask an experts advice on what to do with my R51. It will not power on. I have tried removing the battery but to no avail. It will not also power on with the battery removed. But recently, this laptop hangs when not connected to an AC power. What do you think are my options?
I am thinking of opening it up myself and clean the board, but i think its better to consult with the experts first. Im also thinking of the power regulator inside the laptop if there is. I really need this laptop to be fixed. Its a company laptop and my second one because the first r51 i have got stolen.
Thank you for bothering to read. I appreciate any reply sincerely. |

first make sure your ac adapter isnt fried, try another ac adapter
any led's come on when ac inserted, or led's flash when power on is pressed.....if flashing led's at power on check pins on usb are not bent and shorting against casing(gnd)
if still in warranty ...do not attempt to open laptop and get it repaired under warranty |

had a similar problem with my daughters t43,found the wires from yellow ac connector to motherboard were broken, easy enough to check as t4x motherboards(ROME) have similar connectors as r5x(juneau) remove keyboard ant top bezel to inspect ac connector, as said before if its still under warranty best bet is to get it repaired by ibm |

I am sure that its not the ac adapter. I have already tested it from 4 ac adapters.
A few days ago when i plug it in the AC outlet, the battery sign lits up. Caps lock and Num Lock together with the Z sign lits up when i turn it on but only for a few seconds. then only the Z sign and battery is lit..Now, not even the battery sign lits up and not even a blink when i turn it on.
USB pins are also ok. This is what happened. I left the laptop because i was to plug and test a router. When i got back, the laptop already freezed. So i turned it off like i normally do and turn it on. And poof, nothing. Its out of warranty already i think this is around 4 years old laptop.
What could i have fried?
Is cleaning the motherboard safe using contact cleaners?
I have also tested by replacing the battery of another r51 and still it doesnt work. |

cool your ac adapter seems ok,if there is a problem with ac side on motherboard then you would be running on battery power which would then fully discharge after a length of time, does it power on using another good battery?, if yes and your comfortable about it then do as i said in previous post and remove keyboard and top bezel to see if your ac conn to motherboard wires are broken |
