|
|
Hi. I have a T41 and a T42, both with supervisor passwords. When I open my dump file in IBMpass 2.1 Lite all I get is zeros. If I wasn't getting a good reading of the EEPROM, wouldn't I get an error in r24rf08? I have also verified that there is no POP or HDP. Passphrase is also disabled. Here's a sample of my dump:

There could be many issues, only to mention:
1. Interface malfunction. COM port connections are wrong;
2. GND problems, the GND wire is not connected to the eeprom GND;
3. Wrong command line parameters.
etc.
1. What interface are you using? We'd like to see some pictures, including the serial port connector, etc. _________________ Victor Voinea

I'm going to post some pictures. I'm using a driven i2cprog. I'm using the following command:
r24rf08 dump.bin /x /d /i
r24rf08 was giving me two errors initially, "EEPROM not available" and "Crircuit not found or bus error". I finally got it to read the EEPROM. I thought all was good, but it reads all zeros. I'll try to get pictures of my setup. |

A bad ground causes those symptoms. |

I have it connected securely to the ground leg of the EEPROM. Is there any other than a bad connection to the EEPROM that would cause a bad ground? |

Check to make sure you haven't shorted any of the pins to the next one, and that you always have a space between the various switches.
This:
r24rf08 dump.bin /x/d/i
will give you an "EEPROM not available" error. Put spaces between the switches and you'll get a correct readout. |

Maybe I didn't make myself clear, but the "EEPROM not available" and "Circuit not found or bus error" are not my problem. I stated that I was previously having those errors, but I quickly remedied those problems.
The problem that I am having now is that my dump file reads all zeros. Everything is grounded fine. I've grounded onto the leg of the EEPROM and I also tried grounding to the chassis of the motherboard with the same results. The subject line of this thread says "solved" but it is not. |

Sorry, I presumed you solved it since you said you had a GND problem.
And I can assure you that is your problem..
If you need support please provide some more information and pictures. _________________ Victor Voinea

What interface are you using, the SiProg or the powered one? I've removed the supervisor password from several T4x Thinkpads with the SiProg in the last few weeks and never had a problem. I use microclips to contact the EEPROM pins. |
