|
|
Late last week, in Hong Kong, my X41 (model 1866-6SU) refused to accept either my fingerprint or my windows password. All was fine when I shutdown the night before. Now, the system reports that no fingerprints are setup on the system - for the password, it reports that the password is incorrect. (The system loads fine into XP however I can't get passed the logon screen.)
When I try to logon to Rescue and Recovery, it asks for a password however I don't believe I ever included a password (and anything I might have used does not work.) Is there a default password provided when R&R is loaded on the system?
Otherwise, can you confirm that your approach for recovering passwords will work for me, in the circumstances?
Many thanks JRH |

Our aproach is to solve what's the most important, the SVP password to phisically unlock the laptop.
Windows logon password is easy to reset, no need to mention here a bunch of LM decoders.
Besides, there are some nice linux scripts that are quite usefull, one I use often is this:
http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/bootdisk.html
The fingerprint can be reset by clearing the security chip in BIOS. There is no default R&R password, or at least I am not aware of that. |

Thanks, Bob - and perhaps I'm being a bit thick . . . I don't believe I ever set a Supervisor password. So, is it necessary to "physically unlock the laptop"? (Does unlocking the SVP help me reset the Windows password?)
Thanks JRH |

He, no. And thanks God for that, we'd like Mr Gates to stick with its own bussines. Is quite an easy process to reset/retieve the Windoze logon password (if not EFS, but still..), is not the topic here, you may ask a "specialist" in your area.
Many people had a huge surprise with their SVP havin been set. They buy a laptop, use it for a while, then all of a sudden they figure out that the SVP has been set "by factory". Well, no, that will never happen. It has been set by the merchant where you bought it from, and that is illegal. And a little more surprise, Lenovo will ask you to buy another motherboard just for that. Nice.. |

I'm continuing to be thick, Bob . . . I bought my machine from Lenovo directly and I can access the BIOS setup without any password. However, the Rescue and Recovery requires a password. Is this the SVP?
Much obliged for your help and prompt responses! Thx JRH |
