Hello,
my wife has an old T30, which recently crashed. Now when it starts up it gives a lot of error messages (cmos checksum error, date and time) and then asks for the power-on password - which i do not believe was ever set (by us anyway).
This is an old machine which we got from some friends, and there is no warranty or anything, i believe.
The big problem is that the harddisk contains 6 Months of valuable family photos, which we'd hate to lose - we don't care about the notebook.
You guys sound like TP experts, so do you know if there is any way to restore this data? We'd be happy to pay for this.
thanks in advance

Hello,
It asks for the Supervisor password, the POP was wipped out when CMOS settings were lost.
If HDD is not locked, then is a straightforward procedure.
You have to read a small 8 pin chip called 24RF08 by using R24RF08 and then reveal the password with IBMpass. Here is the tutorial:

The chip is right close to the second SODIMM slot, remove the memory cover and the RAM stick to get access.

Interface blueprints come with the R24RF08 setup.
Have fun! _________________ Victor Voinea
