There are two, but the password is usually in the bigger one, if there is a bigger one. In this case in 2408.
Are they both (mainboards) locked? _________________ Victor Voinea

1. You have there two eeproms, that ST402W is 24C02 and the other is 24C08. 24C08 would be the one with the password.
2. you wrote: | Like i said i have 2 laptops tecra m9 and i can read all needded in both of them. |
I mean, are both of them locked out. Otherwise what is the sense of discution here?.. _________________ Victor Voinea

I've been battling with a toshiba M10 for a few days now and don't seem able to bypass the startup password. There are two 24c02 eeproms on the main board, one on each side. Using ponyprog I can read the contents of one of the eeproms, but there is nothing obvious on it. The other eeprom seems to have a problem and I can't read it. Measuring the voltages I get ~3.2v on pin 5 (sda) but 0v pin 6 (scl). Is this correct? On the eeprom I can read I get ~3.2v on both pins 5 and 6.
On the working eeprom I've written all FF but still password is required.
Any tips or advice is very welcome.
Many thanks

The other eeprom is having a different address and Pony is set to 0xA0. Check how the pins 1-2-3 logics are, if they are all 1 (3.3V) then the addres is 0xAE and must be edited in ponyprog2000.ini
If you're using SIPROG then you may download R24C02 (which is made specially for in system eeprom) and set the address in r24c02.ini. _________________ Victor Voinea

I changed the address but still nothing - eeprom not available. I also tried it with r24c02.
Thanks |

Then what is the logics map for pins 1-2-3? Put the + probe (voltmeter) on each pin and check the voltage... _________________ Victor Voinea

Had to remove the board again and solder some new wires onto eeprom. Anyway this is what I get:
Pin 1 - 0v
Pin 2 - 0v
Pin 3 - 0v
Pin 5 - 3.3v
Pin 6 - 0v
To measure I wait until the password prompt shows.
Thanks |

Then, the eeprom's address is 0xA0. Change that in r24c02.ini and it should work. And Pony as well... _________________ Victor Voinea

Not having much luck here. Was using the simple interface, but decided to build the driven interface. Still cant read the eeprom and address is set to 0xA0. Just get the eeprom not available error.
New driven works fine on the other 24c02 eeprom so I know it is working ok.
Any other ideas?
Thanks

If the first can be read, the second must be as well. It is only a matter of eeprom address, as those 2 eeproms share the same SDA snd SCL signals being on the same bus (this should be normal, but is not a must).
Can you check the differences: A0-A1-A2 pins on each one?
[Edit]
If they both have 0xA0, then are not on the same bus after all. That only means the second eeprom data bus is not tied to ICH SMbus and could be "frozen", in which case you gotta desolder it and read it standalone.. _________________ Victor Voinea

Desoldering is beyond my capabilities so think I shall have to leave it here. Thank you Victor for all your help.
