Hello all,

I've taken some pictures of the right ATMEL chip on a Thinkpad X40.

Pay attention, there are at least 3 ATMEL chips on the mainboard but the one you're looking for was in my case just behind the Hard Drive, under a black tape so you have to completely disassemble the mainboard to access the back side.

I don't know how to show them directly on the forum

Hi ! I successfully built the simple programmer device. Disassembled my x40 and now looking at this guys pics and wondering where pin 1 is on this chip. I do not want to connect the wires to the wrong pins.

Could someone please point out where GND SCL and SDA on this chip is ?

Thanks for your help !

Ok i can see where they go on the picture your added. The problem is that i can not see the writing nor the dot on pin 1 on my chip.
Is there any way you could tell me where the right pins are ?

Thx again

The quick way is to check the Vcc=3.3V on the pin#8. From your perspective there are 2 possible pins, one is the Vcc and the other is the GND.

Meaning taking a volt meter and holding it on each of the pins, one of them should show 3.3V as VCC even if the motherboard is not connected to anything ?

Thanks Victor ! You are a star. Was thinking of going out to get a Digital Multimeter tonight but you already did the job for me.

Razz

I`ll solder the wires on tonight and give the procedure a go.
