Did a bit of do or die and connected 4.5v to vcc pin 8 of the eeprom I can't read. Seems to have done the trick and I can now read the contents. Unfortunately I can't decode them. I'm going to email support both of the 24c02 dumps to see if you can help out.

That's really good to know, so they switch the power on and off and the address is the same, very clever those japs.
