Hi all,
Can I have some advice please, I have just been given an R60 which I want to get going. When I turn it on the HDD password prompt is shown. I took the HDD out to try and boot it and it said that the system had been tampered with, at which point the supervisor password prompt appeared. When I shut it down and rebooted, only the HDD password appears.
Is the system now password protected as a result of removing the HDD? Will I need the RPC8394 1.0 TPM reader to get the password or do I need to buy the writer as well?
As the HDD is protected can I just zero fill it to make it usable or is the password stored on a chip somewhere?
Thanks. |

Hello,
Since you removed the HD, is nothing to boot. Booting an OS..
Your Laptop is having both SVP and HDP set. Using RPC8394 you may find the SVP and unlock the laptop, but for HDP is another story. If its not TCPA it can be done with HD Security tools
Once the drive is ATA locked, you can't zero fill it, you can't cook it and you can't eat it. It has to be unlocked. _________________ Victor Voinea

Thanks Victor, I have just put in an order for the RPC8394. I'll see how I get on with that and will probably purchase the HD unlock once I find out if it's TCPA or not. |

For those of you with any doubt, this solution is fantastic, I've just unlocked my R60 which had SP and HD passwords. I had a few problems getting the interface working but once I did it was plain sailing. Victor was extremely helpful in every step, even when I needed guidance taking the R60 apart!
Here is a screen grab of IBMPass 2.1 with the revealed password:
