ok here goes..i have a ibm t42 that i was working on for a friend and let a buddy mess around with it and he went to disable the p/w and when he did he entered the old p/w and then just hit enter 2 times and now its still locked and hitting enter doesnt do anything same goes with the old password it now does not work either.....any help would be greatly appreciated |

Hi,
I guess the password in question was the SVP, so you disabled it but you should disable the POP first off by using SVP (it can override POP). Now the POP remained and you must remove the 3V lithium cell to get rid of it.
In conclusion: always reset POP (if set) prior SVP. If you don't know the POP, simply type SVP over it.
