I bought a thinkpad T500 around one month ago, and have set up supervisor password immediately. Recently, I found I have forgotten the password.
I have several questions about the supervisor password. First of all, is there any length limit for the password? I have heard of some rumor about 7 character. Is there any character limit? During my trial, I can't input symbol like "! @ # $" into password.
Another one is how to read or write svp of T500. Is there any finding about the type of eeprom for T500?
Today, I opened my system board. I can't find eeprom because of my poor knowledge in these areas. The worst thing is I detached the backup battery during the upacking, supervisor password is needed when computer boots, and now I am locked out of my thinkpad.
Thank you in advance. |

T500 is pretty new, we didn't work on this, so I would require some high resoltulion images with the board. Please email them at support(at)allservice(dot)ro
We will find a solution, and if the actual software is needed, it will be free for you.
[Edit]
Just for the record, T500 was busted.

Thank you for the quick reply.
I would like to give it a shot before I turn to customer service. Tomorrow I will borrow a digital camera to take images of system board.
I found some black sheets covered some parts of system board when I opened it yesterday. What is the function of these stuffs, antistatic? Is it necessary to take off these sheets when I take a shoot? I also found a picture of T500 in the a website. One black sheet can be observed on the bottom of right side.
Lastly, there may be a stupid question. Is there any remarkable characteristics for a eeprom, like 8pin, 14pin? Which part of system board has higher chance to situate the eeprom?
I appreciate your help. |

Of course, take them out, we need to see the whole board. _________________ Victor Voinea

I having the same problem with a T400. If you find a solution inform me ASAP. I am assuming that the T500 and T400 are very similar and I hope to use the solution you find. |

We try to get some used boards for tests, but for now some pictures with the mobo will help us a lot.
The idea is to take some high resolution shots of each side in quadrants - 4- frontside and 4 -backside. _________________ Victor Voinea

Thank you for useful input.
I have a hard time to capture high resolution image yesterday night. Awful batteries of DC, dim light, and unskillful shot came together to deteriorate the situation. All I got are terrible blurry images.
This week I am pretty busy because of the start of new semester. From Thursday to Saturday I will be out of town for a workshop, so I can't try the image capture again until this weekend.
I will come back. Hope with good news. |

First of all, I apologize for the late.
I have made another trial yesterday night. The image is not desirable. Maybe I have to make a shot in the daytime or using more advanced DC. I have recorded some possible chips numbers:
NXP
P24508
6523
nG833
PH5(7 or T ?)L
FDS
8978
P15C
3257(?)E
Z0827
MAX6693
+UP9A829
RSS075
P03
832
(?) means uncertainty
I have found the last two chips don't belong to eeprom according to the alldatasheet.com resource. But I can't find the information about the others.
Any thoughts? Thank you. |
