Hello TP-User,

i hope this is the right forum for my problem. I've change my baseboard and after changing the board i've lost my UUID and my MAC-Address from BIOS (EEPROM). Blessedly before i've write down all my BIOS datas (system-unit and board, UUID and the MAC-Address).

The System-unit and Baseboard-serials are present. I've trying to restore the UUID with IBMs Hardware Maintanance Diskette (HMD) but without any result and for changing the MAC-Address there is no option.

By searching after a solution i've found passwordmethods homepage and saw the 24RF08 Reader Version 2.0. So i ask J. from passwordmethod is it possible to write my UUID and MAC-Address back into the EEPROM? Answer: I don't know if you can write back the UUID? I think you might be able too? What did you think "might be able or not?".

I am at my wit's end. Please can anybody help me by restoring my UUID and MAC-Address into the BIOS or gave me a good hint for an operative solution (read and write if it possible). The Devicetype is a X40. Thanks for any feedback.

so long

We can edit your eeprom with the UUID and MAC (however MAC is not so important) , all you need is the eeprom writer license ($30). The operation is usually taxed as a CRC repair, but since the writer license includes one free (bonus), that's all what you need.

So, if you have the original UUID, then is no problem
