So i'm new to the hardware password recovery system. This is going to be my first board making and soldering experience so I have a couple questions.....
1)Where is the eeprom located on an x200 laptop? I'd hate to take this laptop apart only to find out that the chip was accessible by removing the keyboard.
2)I have desktop that doesn't have a serial port so how would I recover the password or where do I connect it to?
3)The motherboard is covered by sum type of seethrough tape, would I have to put that back or do I leave it off? |

Welcome to our forums!
1. The eeprom is on the top side of the mainboard. You must remove the keyboard and the upper case/frame.

2. Using another PC with a native serial port or buy a PCI port based on UART controllers. USB2COM? - forget about it.
3. I don't think that's really necessary, unless the eeprom is covered by it.

O ok. It seems that i have the NXP P24S08 15 01 N6831 eeprom chip.
Do I really need to solder it on there or could I just tape the wires on there?
So lets say I successfully recover the pass and everything. How would I go about taking off the wires from the eeprom chip? |

For SDA and SCL, you may use 2 needles as probes. Attach the GND using an aligator clip to the VGA_out screw holders. Of course, boot the laptop without the SDA and SCL, those are to be set just prior launching the reader software.

So any ideas? I didn't see anything about removing stubborn power-on passwords on here. |

Nope, Power On Password or POP is always gone when CMOS battery is removed, of course when you remove the main battery and AC adapter as well.
After that CMOS is clean and you should get the time and date errors on screen, then the laptop prompts for SVP password, because it needs you to enter in BIOS and set the correct date&time.
SVP and POP have the same icon/symbol.
In your case, it is the SVP and not the POP. You must to read the eeprom.
