Hi Victor,
Ok...I have a Thinkpad A21M with a corrupt bios (just bought from ebay). I have an eeprom programmer capable of writing to a 24rfo8 chip. The problem is, what do I actually write to the eeprom. I can download the bios from IBM but which file from the floppy is the file I need...
$016D000.FL1 - bios rom I suspect
$016D000.FL3 - platform info I suspect
and is it as simple as renaming the bios.rom file as .bin and then writing to the eeprom ?
Thanks for any info...or advice
Cheers
Steve. |

24RF08 is not the BIOS. Of course, you can download the BIOS from IBM but I don't think they publish 24RF08 contents .
How is the BIOS corrupt? I hope you are not talking about BAD CRC1 or CRC2 because that's not the BIOS.
Else, I can only give relations about my writing software, sorry. |

Victor,
The laptop stall's/freezes at the ibm startup screen, after a few searches I found this problem seems to be a common problem on A21M's and is due to corrupted bios. So thought the solution would be to buy a bios programmer and just reflash the bios with a fresh copy of it.
Cheers

I've never seen a corrupted A21m BIOS so far, though. As I said BIOS is not CMOS and CMOS is not the 24RF08. |

Steve,
If you have CRC errors, the laptop can be recovered but you must be sure your laptop doesn't have a power problem.
Else, the CRC recovery service is available only with the writer license.
This kind of matter I will discuss in private so feel free to email me. |
