I have a Lenovo G530 444624U that has a HDD password lock and I think it also has the password on an eprom as well. It will not go past post I was able to reset the bios password by un soldiering the battery. But the computer is still locked down. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you, |

I don't get it. Is it the power on password or the drive's password?
If you loose the drive is the password prompt still showing up? |

Actually I think the password is on both the EPROM and HDD
When I turn it on it starts up and goes to the Lenovo screen and then it comes up with please enter Built - In HDD1 Password [ ]
With hard drive out it reads:
Broadcom UNDI PXE v2.1 v11.0.11
copyright (c) 2000-2008 Broadcom corporation
copyright (c) 1997 - 2001 Intel corporation
PXE-E61: media Test Failure check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting Broadcom PXE ROM
and it just continues to repeat the above syntax
I have ordered a SATA to USB cable so that I can try to read the drive from another machine. The previous owner stated that he had tried to read drive and no luck. Any help is greatly appreciated. |

No POP at all it's trying to boot from LAN - but HDD is locked. The HDD password is not kept in "the eeprom", being ATA lock - its in the drive
A solution would be to crack it with my EraseON from HD Security Tools:

Victor thank you very much your quick response is why I like your site so much. What is POP ? I will get ERASEON and try to crack the password first. I have ordered a SATA to USB adapter cable to access the 2.5 gig hard drive. My questions will that cable work or will I need a different type cable to run ERASEON? Again thank you! You guy’s are great. This the cable I ordered. http://www.buy.com/prod/usb-2-0-to-sata-ide-hard-drive-cable-adapter-converter/q/loc/101/213484248.html |

Thanks.
The HD software don't work with USB ports - that cable is useless I'm afraid.
It must be a real ATA IDE port, so locked drives will simply connect to one SATA port in a desktop PC, or using an IDE2SATA converter if the motherboard has PATA IDE ports. Or you may use another thinkpad with an ultrabay HDD adapter.
POP stands for "power on password", just semantics.. _________________ Victor Voinea

Thanks again Victor,
I will find something to read the drive with and get back to you with the status. |

Victor I finally received an IDE2SATA adapter and put together an old PC and I’m now ready to order HD Security Tools 1.4b eraseon. My question is will your program allow me to obtain the password on this 250gig SATA drive even when it seems to lock down? |

Hello carkiller2,
For further information regarding a product just email us at support_at_allservice.ro
EraseON was made to crack locked drives when they are ATA locked, yes.
Being a password cracker, it will scan the drive using a given dictionary of words. There's good dictionaries included with the package but no doubt the success depends on how weak is the password and drive's "reaction"speed for ATA commands.
