I purhcased a Dell Inspiron 1000 motherboard with a Bios/Admin password from ebay. The first thing that comes up after booting is "Enter Password." Can some asnwer the following questions for me:
1- Can I user IBMpass 2.0 Lite and the interface to get the password?
2- Where is the security chip / eeprom on this board? Can you send a picture pointing to it? Which one is pin one, two, three...
3- Where can I find a list of the chips/transisters/resisters that I need to purchase in order to build the interface. (if you have a radio shack part number that would be great.
4- Where can I find a step by step / how to diagram of the interface
Please help because Dell is not doing it. Even though I completed their stupid transfer of ownership form. They said and I quote “The warranty is voided and you are not allow to purchase extended warranty“
Thanks,

I don't know exactly where is the chip, i never dismantled the model you have there. Dell usually have 24c02 or 24c04 or other 24cXX eeproms. These eeproms can be read with the driven-i2cprog. All Dell that I've seen have the passwords in scancode so IBMpass can reveal them.
My advice is to open the laptop and search for any 24CXX (8 legs) you find. When you'll find one please send me a PM and I tell you how to read it.
driven-i2cprog.pdf is part of the R24RF08 kit. The list of components are listed there.
Also read the Practice tutorial to see how to build one using a breadboard.

I swapped the chip under the CPU but I still get the same message “Enter password” I know for sure that the new chip does not have a password since it came out of my old motherboard.
There are about 10 chips with 8 legs but I don't know which one to try next.
Does anyone know for sure which chip I should change?
Does anyone know of a diagram/blue print for this motherboard that I can download?
Thanks,
Daniel. _________________ Daniel |
