There are two jumper pads noted J3, under the second DIMM slot and there's also J1 near the SBridge Intel 82801.
From my past experience with N models, it could be J3, do shortcircuit on that for about 10 seconds or other way around is to turn the laptop on with the clear pads shorted for 1-2 seconds..
I take no responsability for your loss _________________ Victor Voinea

Victor right ! but you can do it by another way.
you can program the bios with a new source( without pass). In this case, you must have a programmer and some fresh bios source .
Best rgds ! |

1. Short J3 pads together for 15-20 seconds.
or
2. Short J3 pads and power on machine while still shorting and as soon as SONY screen shows up remove short. If machine boots, password has been removed.
Otherwise search for one 24C02 eeprom, often noted 402W in SONY. Sometimes there;s two eeproms, but only one with serial and passwords. If not, BIOS serial flash is the answer. _________________ Victor Voinea

|
|
Sorry for waking this old thread but was one of the least relevant when searching the web. I have one VGN-NS31M with an unknown bios user password. I have tried all the standard procedures (backdoor passes, remove RTC battery over night) and read above about a J3 pair that does not exist on my board. There is a J1 and PJ17 next to the DIMM 1 slot which i tried to short-circuit one at a time and both while booting to vaio logo but had no luck with those.
I also found the service manual online but gives no information other than how to disassemble (exploded view, parts etc).
There is a master password generator that sony and a few local service centers have but it is not shared on the internet (at least i couldn't find it). Before i pay for a master password, is there any other way i can take out the bios password?
Thanks in advance,
John |

Try this one first.
www.allservice.ro/sony/
If not working, you must tear it apart and read an eeprom inside. |
