Hi.

I have a sony notebook model VPCF116FX with an unknow Power On Password.
If I try the password 3 times it gives a One Time Password. As I read here in this post the Master Password Generator that some people have don't work for this model.

So I decided to try the hardware method. I open the notebook and look for eeprom chips.

I found 4 eeprom chips. They are:

1) 25L3205: Located near the Intel North Bridge chip. It is the main BIOS chip. Without this chip the board turn on but there is no video on screen.

2) 25L1005: Located near the Embedded Controller. I guess this chip have the EC Firmware. Without it the notebook won't turn on (LEDs won't light up).

3) 24LC02: Located near the PCMCIA. I guess this chip have the PCMCIA firmware. I dump it and it only have non interpretable things. Without this chip the notebook turns on normally and ask for the power on password.

4) 24LC02: Located near the main BIOS chip. I dump it and it have the serial number, model number, Service Tag number and other machine specific informations. I tought this is the eeprom chip that have the password but it wasn't because if I turn the notebook on without this chip the notebook turns on normally and ask for the Power On Password. If the password was on it the notebook won't ask for password without it.

Now I don't know what to do. Please can someone help me with this?

I have the dump of all those chips. If someone want to take a look on it just ask me.

Unfortunately it doesn't work. This seems to be one of the systems that displays a key and asks for a onetime password after three tries. I can see from reading this thread there is no solution for that (yet). In any case, thank you very much for your time and effort!

Hi Victor! Someone put a BIOS password in my laptop, Sony VAIO VGN-AX580G i just discovered it recently since im not often go into BIOS. What really kills me is the fact that it has a one time code, so my last resort is to ask the a**hole who put the password (i resigned from my work 6 months ago) or try the EEPROM decoding scheme of yours (the latter is my first option but my laptop has no serial or parallel port). Please help! Crying or Very sad

I'm not Victor, but perhaps I can help a little. Your password locked laptop does not need a serial or parallel port in order to read its eeprom. You would connect to some of the legs on its eeprom. You do need a separate PC or laptop with (usually) a built-in serial port for the SI-PROG or driven interface, or a parallel port for the SPEG interface. I'm not sure which, if either interface would work for the VGN-AX., or if any of the software from ALLservice would work. Maybe someone else can take it from here.

Thanks BillH, it makes sense now, I need another PC with serial port to read the target EEPROM. All this time i thought that the serial port in driven-i2cprog diagram will be connected to the password protected PC's port (i had a Tosh laptop once which i easily reset the password through parrallel port by jumpering and that gives me the idea which is wrong). I should have read more before asking silly questions... Anyway, thanks again for the clarifications.
