Hi,
I just bought a Thinkpad Edge 13 and a Intel SSD 320.
Something went wrong during the POP and HDP setup and after that I can't login.
After some trying I saw that the capslook must be active during password setup and I could guess the right POP.
But the HDP stills be lost. What stores the Thinkpad as the ATA Password. It's a plain or hashed string?
What can I do the "reuse" the drive?
I don't need the data. It's just a fresh Linux installation on it....
They SVP wasn't set at the first setup and the POP is now dropped.
Thanks for your help

Hi,
Capslock does not affect the passwords at all. Passwords are case insensitive, they are taken in scancode (the code of the key pressed) prior doing the encryption, if any.
The HDP is always encoded is not in plain text, but when Security>Passphrase is Enabed in BIOS the password is also hashed.
A program that could crack the HDP (Master or User) by using a dictionary attack is Eraseon from HD Security Tools package.

The software can cope with password encoding but not when passphrased, you have to be sure that this option was off at the time HDP was enrolled. _________________ Victor Voinea
