Are you saying that you have a problem with the SO-DIMM slot?
If it works when you hold the DIMM down then maybe the fasteners are lop-sided or the stick is too thin or needs to be cleaned up to make a proper contact there.
I think a T30 slot has the same design like T40's or other TPs SO-DIMM slot.
Regards

I came across a couple of articles about a year back, that this was a problem with the t30 and that ibm were aware of it,it only happens with the second slot,i`ve tried changing the memory around ,glueing down the stick, packing it out with cardboard and using the cover to hold it "pressed in,its works ok until i move the laptop, then i freeze or blue screen,i have tried different memory, but to no avail, and as i said in my last post this is my second t30 that this has happened to,is there anyone else out there that has put 2 512 sticks in a t30 ?

Actually, I type on it right now. I replaced the original PC2100 512M with a pair of Kingston 2x512 that worked without problems.
I am interested to read those articles, maybe you can provide a link. As I said I never had problems with T30s so far.

I don't see how this can be a "wide spread" problem. I see 2-3 guys complaining about a random problem having some t30 or t40 there.
I can tell the same thing about any laptop model or brand in this world.
If you want to mention a "wide spread" problem, try A20 series, or FSC Amilo 6100-6300.

Maybe, but how this will help you? I think the main problem mentioned in the links you provided was that the second mem slot doesn't work at all for some T30.
T30 has several versions not only one and those problems are very limited, I think. Also IBM fixed those problems even beyond the warranty.
Besides, you said the DIMM worked in your T30 if you push it down and that has nothing in common with the problems debated there, in my opinion.
Apparently, you have a bad contact between the mem stick and PCB.

yes bob to a point, but as i said i have 2 t30s different versions, using different memory sticks, the problems are the same, ive tried at least 6 different sticks, and only came across holding the memory down by chance,i think the problem lies between the memory holder and pcb,and i bet if a lot of the other people held their memory down it would work, from the 3 links and including myself you get at least 18 t series lappys from 4 people with problems with second slot,it would be interesting if other forum users that use t30s with only 1 slot in use where to try using the second slot also ,to see the ratio of between working slots and non working slots.

Hi to all, there was a known issue with the t30 memory slot, ibm offered (as mentioned) even after the warranty to fix the problem by replacing the mobo. |

Well, I actually just wanted to confirm what Bob had already stated as it is really common knowledge and nothing new. Guess I should keep my pie hole shut huh. Sorry. |

i can honestly say i feel the bad memory slot is a wide spread problem i keep waiting for a reacall. i have seen in several places people complaining about this problem and in fact now i am starting to see people on ebay advertising T30's that specifically do not have this problem. personally out of the 15 or so T30's i have had over the years at least 5 developed this problem at some point. maybe we can get a recall started hehe _________________ "... if you ain't breakin stuff, you ain't tryin"

Hi Disco,
Nice to see you here, my friend.
Yeah, I think you are right. Even tough T30 has a good design, they had some problems with the memory slots. |
