Built simple interface - realized resistors were initially too big at 1W so got 0.25W 2200Ohm resistors and started again.

Used new BZX79-CV51 Zener Diodes 5.1Volt 500MW

Wire is solid core copper from reel of CAT5E STP - but still cannot get connection to laptop points to work - used itester it reads 1-1 then 0-0 so should be OK

Overall length from connector to pins is 600MM Desktop PC with normal serial port that usually drives my analogue modem.

Cannot see what it is that I am missing so please cast your critical eye over my photos and tell me what the secret to doing this successfully is?

Now also have bought a ready made driven interface have attached a battery snap for 3x AA battery holder and think that GND=GND SCL=TXD=Pin9 and SDA=CTS=Pin11 Have got to point of annoying myself as unable to figure out what I am missing - HELP Victor!

[img][/img]

Think SDA is towards bottom SCL is towards top - two slightly abraded points

[img][/img]

Used Soldering Heat-sink while connecting either end of Zeners just to be sure

[img][/img]

NON Stainless sewing pins - wires are soldered on

[img][/img]

Driven interface - any good? Or bin it? Have not actually tried it yet.

[img][/img]

Seems to be a fingerprint set in BIOS as well as SVP in case that makes any difference - need help on this as am by now dreaming of unlocking hell!

The following is what I am getting on screen:-

"C:\ALLservice\24RF08>r24rf08 mytp.bin

That is not a driven interface but some kind of joke..so loose it.

Now,

1. Take a fine tipped soldering iron and gently cover the testpoints with little bit of solder material, just a fraction of a second keep the tip on each one.
You may also use a razor blade to remove the paint/laque prior applying the solder.

2. At the SDA and SCL wires, solder two sharp sewing needles and cover them with tape so you wont make a contact with the needles when touching the testpoints.
The GND wire must be cliped (gator clip perhaps) to the VGA out conn.

3. Finally, go ahead and read the eeprom.

EEPROM Read successful on simple interface - thank you for the good advice Victor - but unfortunately password still not working.

Looked around and also found COM1 set to only 9600! (How did COM1 happen to be set so low?) in XP Pro SP3 Control Panel - so upped it to 57600 - also reset UART Buffer Settings to defaults.

Out of curiosity what is the max communication speed of "L08-F1 FH" chip being read?

[img][/img]

Abraded then Soldered Connection Points (De-Fluxed)

[img][/img]

Reading Password File - seems to say "6Q" or "6Q `" but password not accepted by BIOS if I try to enter "`" character (key above and to left of "Q" on my keyboards is it the right key?) ThinkPad BIOS beeps at me - is password also case sensitive?

Have I made a mistake reading the file from the ThinkPad?

Or interpreting the Password from the extracted binary file?

While reading with desktop PC connected to ThinkPad this is what happened:-

"Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]

Reading eeprom...

Done.
1024 bytes saved in mytp.bin

Now just to extract the password from the binary file.
