Hi all,

I have an IBM G40.
I tried to dump 24rf08c eeprom with simple I2C interface but it failed. Sad

The problem is the notebook does not boot anymore. Screen staying black, HDD light flashes for a second, afterwards only the power LED is on.

What should I do?
Should I reprogram my ATMEL 24rf08c?
Could you send me a clean eeprom dump?

Sorry to hear that.
Is not the eeprom with the problems, but the power area on the mainboard.

Reason: It was that the interface wasn't good (usually wrong zeners) or connected to wrong eeprom pins.

Thanks for your reply.

Thinkpad started normally and waited for bios password before I tried to dump eeprom.
I had tested the interface with the itester and it was successful.

Power area seems to be ok, power led is on, fans are running.

Only the power button is working on the keyboard. If I left memory banks empty the mainboard does not beep.

What happens if interface is connected to wrong pins?
Does thinkpad start with wrong eeprom?

What's your opinion, why does not start my laptop if power is ok?

Itester must be executed with the interface connected to the COM, but not to the locked laptop!. It cannot damage the eeprom but can damage its data.

Anyway, you have now a hardware problem, and that couldn't be generated by itester. My only guess is that you connected SDA to Vcc by mistake, the 3.3V power line had a shock. Or more commonly, the GND to Vcc by confusing the eeprom pin#4 with pin#8

The fact that the power led is on doesn't necessarily mean: it's ok...

Anyhow, if the eeprom still gets 3.3V you may read it and send us the dump to check for any CRC error, but once again your problem is the hardware, not the eeprom data.
