Hi

To retrieve the password, do I actually have to go into the BIOS (blue background), or wait till I'm prompted to enter it on the screen with the black background and the password symbol?

Hello,

Just wait for the laptop to be idle. If you hit F1, or Thinkvantage button you'll get the pass prompt -> idle
