All hardware manuals can be downloaded from IBM website HMM Index

40 series have the eeprom near Intel 82801, remove the keyboard and top cover. It is pretty similar with t40 or r51

If you need to know where is the eeprom on certain model is better to read the other posts, usually the posted subjects are very eloquent
