How do I connect my laptop to a wired internet connection using an ethernet cord? I currently have a HP Pavilion laptop running on Windows XP and I want to use the internet through an ethernet cord for a faster connection. The wireless internet works just fine, but when I connect one end of the ethernet cord in the router and the other in my laptop, my internet suddenly stops working. How do I enable a wired internet connection on my laptop?

If your router has DHCP enabled, then goto your ethernet card TCP/IP settings and select "Obtain an IP address automatically" and same for DNS.
Or type in the correct IP addresses following your router subnet/class/
BTW, the only advantage you'll have is an increasing file transfer speed in your LAN, while the internet speed is consideralby slower than those 54mbps generated by the WIFI 802.11/g, you wont get any better. If you have /b at 11mbps I would agree with you, tough _________________ Victor Voinea
