Hello everybody, I have sucessfully dumped several thinkpad t42 passwords before with no problems but now I have hit a brick wall.

I have a Dell c610 laptop that I have fully disassembled and partially reassembled so I can access the Atmel 24c02 8 pin chip. I have it assembled enough so I can power it up in order to get a read from it.

I have a MAX232 reader that I purchased from Passwordmethod.com and it works great for the thinkpads.

I have been trying to get the dump from the 24c02 chip, searching on these forums I found a link to a 24c02.exe that looks like you can run from the command promp like the 24c01 and 24rf08 programs.

So far I have not been able to get it to work properly.

I tried it with the same parameters located in the readme.pdf file from the 24rf08 reader that says to put the /x /d /i at the end in order to use the MAX232 reader.

If anybody would be kind enough to help me, I wanted to verify that the SDA and SCL are located in the same place as the 24rf08? I found a few diagrams for the 24c04 chip and one for the 24c02 located here http://www.gaw.ru/pdf/Atmel/at24/24c02a-16a.pdf. I assume that the small round indent in the chip marks the first pin, and then the bottom on that side is the ground at pin 4 and the 2 on the other side of the ground are the SDA and SCL at pins 5 and 6 like in the 24rf08. Is this correct or am I wrong. I have tried the ponyprog with no success.

Any help would be great.

Unfortunately I do not have the tools to desolder this chip properly. Any other way to read it. This is for a customer, so I am on somewhat of a deadline.

All I get using the r24c02.exe program is:

Initializing Timer 11852 OK!
Error Circuit not found or bus error!

Hit enter to exit.

I will continue to try, using other programs and see if I get lucky.

If anybody knows anything I would love to hear it Very Happy

Thanks.

I used the latitude.exe to get a password but the password it gives doesnt work correctly.

Im thinking... would not having the cmos battery plugged in when the computer is turned on effect me getting a read from the eeprom?

The eeprom that contains the passwords is 24C02. And can be read perfectly in-system. All you have to do is to configure the base address correclty.

You need the following:
1. Driven programmer.

2. A short test to find the address:
-check the voltage on 24C02 pins 1-2-3. Is they are all 0, 0, 0 the address is 0xA0. If you have trouble to compute it, post the values here.
-you may also use r24C02 to find it. Change base_address=$00 in R24C02.ini
Run the program:
Code:
r24c02 dump.bin /x /d /i
. When the eeprom is found, it will read it.
