I was searching the forums for an earlier answer but I guess everybody before me either changed their mainboard or did something to invoke this error.

I was reinstalling Windows XP for a friend (everything worked fine on the old installation + some viruses). I choose to reinstall Mandriva Linux, because he didn't need XP just for surfing on the Internet. Everything went perfect and it worked. Couple of days later he calls and tells me that there is an error on startup - Error 0192 and that it just stops booting there.

Now, he doesn't know how to get into BIOS or change anything. Just "Power On" button and then click on the Internet Explorer. So nothing was changed hardware/software (except from a new operating system that worked).

How can this suddenly happend? What is the solution to override this? I can go to BIOS but it won't boot from the local CD, HDD or USB?

Please advise.

Hello,

That error appears when someone (or something) alters the BIOS code intentionally - I should say with a programmer, or when TCPA chip has been tampered with.

The perfect example is when somebody removes the BIOS flash to write in a foriegn BIOS, code taken from another T60. Which won't work.

Now, to get this solved we can neuter the TCPA signature in BIOS and we offer the service freely for our SPEG programmer registered users.
Well, you must purchase that in order to solve the problem. You have to read the BIOS code with SPEG and email it to us, we'll patch it and then the rest is simple. SPEG can read T60 BIOS in system by using a Pomona clip, or you must desolder the chip and program off-system. The flash is an 8 pin SOIC, located somewhere under the keyboard.
