We followed your great instructions and revived our Thinkpad R51 from a Supervisor locked condition. Wasn't easy, but I worked through it and was victorious in retrieving the passwords.
Again many thanks for your efforts and information |

I am just happy because of my IBM thinkpad which is now unlocked by Victor. His programs are wonderfull clear and easy to use. Can you just imagine that I was even planing to send it to Doubai or even America to have it unlock. I don't know the amount of money to send it from Burkina Faso (my Country) to those countries but it wouldn't have been small money. But by the grace of God and through Victor I am a happy man today. Victor you should be really happy to make happy men all over the world even to west Africa in my small and poor country. All I can say is just God bless you. |

Hello
A big " THANK YOU ! " to Victor for sharing his nice progīs !
I retrieved SVP (with simple-i2c + IBMpass1.1 )
from a broken TP390e . so my interface works fine .
Then i successfully conected to a T23 eeprom and got :
eeprom not found ! (executed r24rf08.exe 3 times).
So i powered down T22 and retried : Black screen ! .
Only possible mistake i can imagine is short circuit between sda + scl during fist 3 attempts.
Is the eeprom "dead" , or even the motherboard + how can i check it ?
Has anyone made Experience like this + knows a solution ?
Please help , its fastest machine i have....
Thanks , ubik |

Hello ubik,
Looks like you have a power problem there. If you did a SC by mistake then one of the board fuses might be fried and this is the best scenario . If you can see images on external monitors then the internal LCD inverter is not powered. Check the fuses or other power resistors (also bridges).

Hello victor
Thanks for your support and the excellent photo .
Unfortunately i get no image on my external CRT
Havenīt found time to dismantle the T23 (family...)
hope so next days ... ;)
Also i got a question about the driven interface :
My friend gave me a smd - max232ma , can i use it ? Which capacitator is right ?
I put the simple one into the housing of the com-connector ,
would be cool to do the same with the driven interface :)
Thanks again ! Ubik

..wow ! Safe when taken as directed. |

As said in the sibject THANK YOU!
Allthough my project "revealing supervisor password from T21" is not yet completed, I want to thank you for VERY GOOD instruction and software.
I will try to read the security chip this evening when I get back the TP from local electronic shop (Called Bebek). I took it there cause the SecChip is so small that even with the smallest solder tip I couldn't solder the wires to the SecChip. I tried and after soldering the SCL wire I checked for short circuit: I managed to short circuit pins 9, 10 and 11. Ended my work there and decided to take it to professional for soldering. I also told him about my unsuccesfull attempt, so now he is trying to fix the SC's and connect the wires without short circuits.
One thing I did right was that I didn't power up the TP with the short circuited pins 9,10 and 11 on the sec chip.
Now I am hoping that I didn't broke the chip with soldering attempts.
Do you know how easily that sec chip is broken when soldering. I did warm the leg about 2-4 secs when trying (35 watt soldering iron).
Could you answer to one question: In the simple serial I2C programmer pdf there is com port pinout. When looking the back side of the female DB9, the pinout numbers corresponds to the com pinout, so do I solder the wires to same numers shown in the back of the female connector? I mean that ground goes to number 5 pin in the back side on female? And so on (DTR to pin 4 etc)
I'll put a post about the results after I have tested the solution. If it succeeds, I don't know how to thank you enough Victor. |

Sorry, I saw your post several times but I forgot to answer the question.

Yes, this is correct, you have to respect the notation there. In the diagrams there is a front view of the COM port (Male). You have to look at the 9 pin DB female from the back ( )
And this is for the forum search record:
COM port layout - DB9 male
