Hello,
I'm currently searching for a working BIOS dump extracted from a Compaq 515, 516 or 615, they all use the same BIOS (68GVV). A BIOS upgrade was performed and after reboot the laptop is completely dead. I externally flashed the chip SST25VF016 (2MB) with the file extracted from the update but the laptop turns on without video and then it turns off after 10-30 seconds.
In the update utility there's a file with these address ranges:
0x140000 0x00010000
0x1c0000 0x00040000
0x8000 0x00008000
by checking the original dump I can see that the model number, serial number and other information is stored at range 0x140000-0x150000, but on the file from the BIOS update that range is filled with FF's. That range it's probably the security area.
The next thing I'm going to try is to copy range 0x140000-0x150000 from the original dump to the update and then flash the chip back again and check for results (<= Didn't worked). Hopefully someone can provide me a working file.
Thanks in advance

I don't mind if the BIOS dump is password protected, as long as is functional, not corrupted. Anyone?

Hello,
thank you for the help, I was able to find a user in a forum that e-mailed me a copy of the BIOS in his Compaq 515 laptop. Probably the file extracted from the BIOS update from HP site would have worked on the first try, but the customer always stated that after the update the laptop stopped working. The laptop had other problems and the motherboard was physically fried. Since the BIOS chip is accessible from the bottom of the laptop once you remove the WiFi card cover, I never knew how it was inside, but I saw that there was something wrong because many points of solder around the BIOS chip had a hole in the middle as if the solder had boiled.
Thanks anyway

Hello laptopsmaster,
I still don't have the generator for these Sony laptops with Onetime Password + KEY, you can remove the motherboard and then read the eeprom that stores the password, save a backup copy and then patch it. So far I've been buying the passwords.
