hello, I am trying to figure out hot to build the com1 type interface to make an eeprom reader for thinkpads. I seen in somer pics in this forum it just requires a com1 socket and a few resistors? is this correct? I only wish to retrieve the passwords form thinkpads. Do I need a max232 chip in the itnerface circuit? Is there a link to a proper schematic?
I seen the breadboard diagram wich looks good but there is no designation of the com1 pins??!!

From what I have read in this forum it seems victor is the man! Its amazing what you have accomplished!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can find the schematics inside the reader kit.
max232 circuit is better than SIPROG, because SIPROG depends on the COM port current. But SIPROG works and is a fast solution.

If you are a tech and program chips more often, driven circuit is the best choice.
