Hi there,
I have an IBM T21 and I mistakenly took out the 24rf08c Chip and took it to someone I know to read it. When read, all the values come up as ff ff ff ff ff ff ff ff as though the chip is corrupt or blank or not reading correct. We checked and double checked that it was connected right and it was/is. Obviously the laptop will not boot/display without this chip in so what does that mean? Have I killed it? Do i need to program it again? Does anyone have a dump they could email me that I could program onto it! my email address is lugholes(at)msn.com . Any help would be overly appreciated.
Many thanks,
Warren. |

Hi,
First of all, I want to know what program you used to read the chip as you didn't mention.
Secondly, to program you need the writer W24RF08 which is commercial. The dump is available with the writer. |

The programmer is an "Elnec" which is a very powerful programmer, it has its own software which I have tried to use to program the chip with random data and it will not do it. Does the chip require special software to program it then? Is there a possibilty that the chip is stuffed, in which case I will have to get another one from somewhere. How much is the software if i deffinatly need it? The Elnec programmer detects the chip and all of its properties so Im sure that its suitable for it?
Many thanks for the fast reply.

I don't think Elnec's programmers can cope with 24RF08.
Download R24RF08 (interface schematics included in the kit) and read the eeprom.
If the results are the same then your eeprom content is corrupted for good.
To reprogram the chip we have W24RF08 which is $30. |
