Such a stupid problem on my Windows XP PC! I've been in IT for years and can't remember seeing this

Went to use 24RF08 eeprom reader program which was already installed correctly and has been used successfully from time to time.

Running the command reported 24RF08.exe file not found which was confirmed when the relevant folder was checked - it had disappeared!

OK I must have deleted it sometime in the past...just need to reinstall it.

Downloaded 24RF08.zip and used winrar to uncompress - simple! But as it uncompressed to extract the .exe file, the exe file just disappeared!

Long story short - problem was due to the antivirus software (in this case free Avast with default settings) which detected the program as malicious and uninstalled it as it was extracted.

It was a case of changing the the AV software settings to temporarily not check any installing programs, and this worked fine.

The worrying thing is that if the AV settings are restored back to "normal" settings, as soon as the .exe file is run from the command line it's deleted, so I have to remember each time I use it to alter the AV settings.

I'm posting this since I've seen it so rarely and if I'd known about it I'd have saved around 2 hours of pulling my hair out - do you have a free program Victor for making new hair

No but you may collaborate with Avast! for a new haircut style .

BTW, I would recommend you Avira Antivir insted, we use it since 2003 on all workstations with great sucess. Their support is also awsome
