You may need to dismantle the keyboard and palmrest to access the 24rf08 8 pin eeprom and CMOS batt.
If it's only power-on password then removing the small LiIon cell for 2 seconds should be enough, otherwise the eeprom must be read to reveal the SVP.
Get the T40 Hardware maintenance manual to see how to do that from here:
