which do you prefer and why?

Capacitor


Resistor


DB9


since I'm newbie
I have to be prepare & carefully for this kind stuff

Just use the components listed in the diagrams.

MAX232's suffix has no importance other than caps selection. I would use MAX232N with 1uf electrolytic caps.
