Do you think you could be able to enable IVB cpus support for T420 SNB thinkpads?
It is possible because Coreboot can do it, so there is no hardware limit, it's only a bios thing.
T430 supports both generation, in fact looking in its bios you can find files for IVB and SNB platforms, and the most important thing it has video initialization for HD3000 and HD4000 iGPU, which seems to be the critical issue.
I also personally tried to do but I'm not enough skilled to succeed.
