Hi Victor and all the people here!
I've read the eeprom file using Your tool called r24rf08, but I cannot read the password from the .bin file. Ibmpass 1.1 shows the empty string like this: The password is:
ibmpasslite shows different characters like ЦЖ
What do I wrong?!
The machine is T30
Thank You a lot! |

That is because there is no SVP set. It is only the POP (Power ON password), just remove the CMOS batt for 1-2 seconds. SVP and POP have the same logo. |

YES,yes.yes, it works!!!
Victor, thank You very much!
By the way, I read the chip by using Multiprog 2001XL programmer, I think, it can be read with nearly every device like Master CRD etc.
P.S.: the HDD is still locked |

Any interface that meets the software request may be used. 24RF08 tools need only that SDA-in, SDA-out and SCL to be fitted to the COM1 port the way it needs.
I am afraid the HDST are more expensive than a single drive.

Hello Victor,
I also built the interface and run the 24rf08-program on a TP 600e.
The .bin file is empty (only zeros !)
So I thaught, it's only a Power-On-Password and unlock the BIOS-Batterie,
but now I get the errors 161 and 163 and cannot go to the bios-setup !
Is there a way to get a clean .bin-file to write it to the ATMEL-chip ?? |

First of all, if the SVP is not set doesn't mean the eeprom should be empty.
Besides, to give you an advice, I must know what circuit you have there and much more details.
The most common causes:
1. Faulty circuit and/or eeprom connections
2. Wrong software parameters.
If you have driven-i2cprog then use /x /d /i command line parameters. |

Hello Victor,
I used the drive-i2cprog-interface and double, triple checked the connections. Also I used the /x /d /i command line parameters.
The interface ist connected to another PC at COM1-Port.
I pull the power on the interface on without connections to the TP600e.
Then I power on the TP600e by pressing the F1-Key to get into the bios.
When the icon prompt comes on screen and there is no hdd-activity I
connect the interface to the TP600e (first the GND) and start the
r24rf08-programm in a command-window with the command
C:\ALLservice\24RF08>r24rf08.exe dump101.bin /x /d /i

Found eeprom type: 24RF08

As you see, the dump-file iss empty.
Then I tried to run the patcher.exe first with
C:\ALLservice\24RF08>patcher.exe /x /d /i

/D Invert SDA-Out. Default is direct.
/I Invert SDA-In. Default is direct.
W24RF08 has complete support to reset access protection. Use W24RF08 instead
of this program with "/P" switch.
Initializing timer...8185 OK!
Patching...
Done.

Hit <Enter> to exit...
After that I immediately run the r24rf08-program again, with the
same result --> empty dumpfile

It is a faulty circuit there, I need to see the circuit to tell you what's wrong.
Email some detailed pictures with the interface, DB9 female and eeprom connections to support-at-allservice.ro

Hello Victor,
I just send some pictures of my interface and the connections
to the mail above

Hello Victor,
first of all many thanks for your fast response to my mail.
The condensators on the picture I sent to you are no ELKOs.
To exclude mistakes on the connections of the interface I built another
one on a breadboard as you describe in this forum.
The results are the same: only a dump-file with hex-zeroes !
But perhaps I made another mistake ??
The cable between the drive-I2C-interface is about 5 Meters long.
The connections of the cable are 1-1: the connector 5 of the DB9-female-connector goes to connectorr 5 at the PC, the connector 4 of the DB9-connector goes to connector 4 of the COM-Port of the PC and so on.
Is that correct. I mean yes, otherwise I get no dump-file, or ?
What COM1-Port preferences are correkt/do you prefer.
My preferences are:
8N1 by 9600 Baud and Hardware-control
Greetings

The capacitors I saw in your pictures are tantal based, not ELCOs. At least that is what I saw there.
Those are polarised capacitors and I told you to check the polarity for C4 and C5.
I also asked you what IC do you have: MAX232 or MAX232A, and you never specified that. I also told you to check with a voltmeter the IC pin 2 and pin 6 to see if the internal max232 charge pump is working.
Doesn't matter if your cable is 5M long, RS232 logics uses -V (Lo), +V(Hi).
To conclude: if you have MAX232 the capacitors must be 1 uF (ELCO or tantal both types are polarised), else if you have MAX232A you can use 100nF=0.1 uF non polarised capacitors.
The diagrams shows the COM port viewed form the front end.

The flow control must be "None" usually. |

Hello Victor,
sorry, that I forgot to answer your questions.
The IC in my interface is a MAX232N, not a MAX232A.
So, if I understand you right, I have to use capacitors which are polarised. This point is not clearly shown in your diagram of the driven-i2c-interface.
How can I test the polarity of the capacitators you told me if they are soldered in the interface ?
I think, the easiest way to "repair" this is to solder the capacitators out
and solder new one in and be careful to do this in the correct polarity.
Do the asteriks in the picture of the driven-i2c-interface also mean, that
these ends are the (+)-polarity ?
BTW, anywhere I have an old season-interface with also the MAX232 on it.
I will take a look at this old interface to check the polarity of all capacitors.
When I have changed the capacitors I will also check pin 2 and pin 6 to see if the internal max232 charge pump is working and tell you the result.
Greetings
JAM

So it's clear you need ELCOs there, MAX232N is made by Texas Instruments. It is specified in the list of components (see schematic) the difference between the MAX232 and MAX232A. If you have any doubts, see the IC datasheet here |
