I got a machine (T40) with what was described as a bad motherboard. The original "repair person" thought he could get rid of the password problem by removing the eeprom. Before I replace the board, what if I get a new ATMEL 24RF08 and write a good image from another T40. Will that work? It looks like everything else is there and the guy didn't make a mess removing the chip.

I believe that using the maintenance disk, I can generate UUID and put in model, serial, etc if I can get the thing to turn on.

Yes, will work if the machine type is the same. Some adjustments are needed some times.

We can help you with the dump, but you need the writer and this is commercial.

Thanks. I already have the writer licensed. I was just going to put write back a dump I got from another T40 machine. Can I install the chip into the machine before I write the image or must I write the image into the chip first, using the powered circuit? If I can write in the machine, I assume I will get some sort of checksum error when I turn on with empty chip. When do I write? When I get the checksum error?

Thanks

Ok mr. Katz, now I see that is you Smile

If you need help with a dump just tell me the machine type and I will give you one that fits there.

You can write the image in system, no problem. See the W24RF08 pdfs, its all explained there.
