Hello.
Funny story here. (on a thinkpad t-20)
I constructed the simple circuit and when I went to attempt the dump, the password lock mysteriously disappeared as I hooked up the ground, scl and sda wires to the laptop. I did the dump anyway just in case it was a fluke, then disconnected everything as described. Everything was working fine. I loaded up XP and was surfing the web last night. Then when I booted it up this evening I got an error 188. Its a t-20.
What could have gone wrong this late in the game?
How can I get past this 188 error?
It freezes there, won't even let me get to bios.

Thanks so much for your great support!

Shannon

The eeprom content get corrupted. It is possible to be a damage on the board after the short circuit you made, or can be just an aleatory error as an effect of the same operation you just did.

The only way to get rid of this error is to repair the content and write the chip. It is possible that the eeprom dump you read before to be corupted too so, in this case, read again the eeprom and let us see both dumps.

To order the W24RF08 (CRC repair included free) see here more details:
