i am looking for a picture with the exact location of the eprom chip for a thinkpad 600 (just a thinkpad 600 ) I have looked for all the numbers including on every chip and cant locate any that even come close to the ones mentioned here and other sites if someone has a picture of the exact location i would be gratefull

Hi,

Thank you for your kind appreciation!

TP 600 has 24C01, located near the TI PCI bridge.
The recovery procedure is identical, but you have to use R24C01 to read the eeprom. R24RF01 kit includes the reader R24C01 in it.

I suggest you to build the driven programmer to read the eeprom.

ok i found the atmel chip couple of questions need answered before i proceed
1)I bought the stuff for this programer here http://sodoityourself.com/hacking-ibm-thinkpad-bios-password/ i hope this will work ?
2) here is picture of my atmel http://s81.photobucket.com/albums/j202/Christal_Princess/?action=view&current=Picture3.jpg
it has a yellow wire running off it shown with the clip it runs from there through a hole to the top of the board is it anything to worry about also what one would be pin 1 on this chip ?
3) The diagram i have for the reader doesnt have a battery hook up do i need it if do where in line do you put it and if put the battery pack in do i still have to boot pc to read the chip ?
sorry if there is answers here for the last question but i think i am understanding things wrong i am understanding that the power aka batteries is the power needed to read the chip with out having it hooked up and booted up in the thinkpad
Other questions that maybe can answer but not as importantant as first three
- there is a small reset button on the 600 just infront of the on/off switch does this to anything in like reseting the bios and shorting the chips (didnt find it till took the board right out )
- was curious if there was a way to read that eprom via one of the ports on the tp rather than striping it right down (seems to me ibm techs would have some way of doing it )
- i have some old programers like the t911 programer could it be converted to use for such things as reading the atmel chips of TPs or somthing ?

1. I gave you a hint: Build the driven programmer, not the SIPROG. Download the R234RF08 kit and see the driven-i2cprog.pdf

2. That is the chip, the yellow wire is connected to pin #7. Look at the schematics and see the eeprom pins layout. Or better ask a friend who knows how to read a diagram.

3. Is stated there: The batteries are only for unsoldered eeproms. But you do not need to unsolder the eeprom, the TP will power it up.
